As of version 2.2.8, the POP3 server can be implemented via xinetd/inetd service or via the POP3 daemon. The POP3 daemon can be turned on/off from the Admin CP, and the xinetd/inetd implementation cant be turned on/off from Admin CP.
However, the implementation via xinetd/inetd is for Pro and requires root access (to configure xinetd/inetd service). The server implementation using xinetd/xinetd has more advantages as the xinetd/inetd service itself offer many settings parameter. Its envisage that better performance gain by using xinetd/inetd service.
For Lite, only the daemon based server is available. To run the daemon does not require root access but require your server to have Perl installed. Almost all server would have Perl installed -- Linux server by default install Perl in it.
Using the daemon would also allow the service (POP3/SMTP) to be ran on Windows based server. Ensure Perl installed on the Windows server.
